The PHCC-TX R.E.A.C.H. Conference was a great success August 6–8 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio. It was a gathering of industry leaders, providing education, advocacy, and community. The apprentice contest was a huge success and a razor-thin finish. Christopher Fuentes, from Beyer Plumbing, will move on to the National Competition where he will compete against apprentices from all over the country. The conference boasted 25 industry partners who showcased their products and services. It was a great opportunity for our attendees to learn about new products from the companies that provide them. At the end of the apprentice contest and vendor showcase, the awards were handed out. We were proud to honor the amazing people who make PHCC so great. This year's award winners were: Monty Lowell for his contribution to our education department and social media Griggs Moody, Milwaukee Tools, for his amazing support of PHCC and all the events and education we hold Mark Park, president of PHCC, for his commitment and guidance to the Association. He has gone above and beyond during this year of Presidency to support the growth of the Association. Jane Hanna, Executive Director of CEF. Jane has run the PHCC Apprentice program since its inception and is largely responsible for the growth and longevity of the program. The event was fun and a great opportunity to celebrate the trade and the people who make it great. If you missed this year, mark your calendar for August 5-7, 2026, at the Hyatt Hill Country San Antonio. The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) is pleased to announce plans to relocate its Austin headquarters this summer to a new, state-owned facility located just 4 miles away on Cameron Road in Austin. The agency has operated out of its current location at 929 East 41st Street since 1981. The move marks a significant milestone for the TSBPE, which has outgrown the 15,273-square-foot leased space. The new facility offers approximately 23,533 square feet—providing much-needed room for staff, expanded visitor and examinee parking, and the continued development of the agency’s on-site practical examination center. Administrative services will continue at the 929 E. 41st Street location until August 31, ensuring uninterrupted support for licensees and the public during the transition. While practical exams have not yet ceased in Austin, the ability to schedule an exam in Austin has been suspended until the new exam center is up and running. The TSBPE’s Waco testing facility remains fully operational and accepting examinees. Additionally, computer-based exams are available as always through Pearson VUE at over 60 testing centers across Texas. Democratic members of the Texas House of Representatives opted to break the quorum necessary for the House to convene this past Monday as a show of opposition to the Republican leadership’s intentions to advance a midterm congressional redistricting bill. Most Democratic House members departed Texas for Illinois, Massachusetts, or New York Sunday afternoon ahead of a vote scheduled for Monday on HB 4, Congressional Redistricting. House Speaker Dustin Burrows placed a Call on the House and signed civil warrants, which empowers the House Sergeant-at-Arms and Department of Public Safety troopers, operating within state lines, to track down the absent members and bring them to the Capitol. Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton have taken additional steps seeking to expel the absent members for abandoning their elected officeholder positions. Speaker Burrows has given all members a 1pm deadline, Friday, August 8th, to appear in the House Chambers. The Senate has passed six bills to the House that are on the governor’s special session call. The Senate met last Friday and Wednesday of this week to pass the bills to the House. The Senate version of the redistricting bill, SB 4, passed out of committee this week and will be headed to the Senate Floor soon. The House has referred 11 different bills and taken up flood-related proposals in committee along with the congressional redistricting bill. The flood bills were left pending earlier this week, while the redistricting bill has been set on the House Calendar but awaits the requisite quorum to be taken up. The final day of the special session is August 19th. Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Bryan Daniel has been named as the first president of the NYSE Texas. Daniel has served Governor Abbott in multiple capacities, including as the executive director of the Economic Development and Tourism Office within the governor’s office, before moving to the Texas Workforce Commission in 2019. The NYSE Texas is headquartered in Dallas. Bruce Bugg, Jr., Chairman of the Texas Transportation Commission, passed away this week following complications from a surgery. He was first appointed to the commission by Governor Abbott in 2015 and has served as its chairman since 2017.

EDEN, creator of the Instant Quote online tool for HVAC contractors, has joined the Service Nation Rewards™ program as a Preferred Partner. By implementing EDEN Instant Quote on their websites, Service Nation contractors gain a 24/7 digital sales engine that captures site visitors, instantly generates heat-load-backed estimates, and automatically applies all eligible utility, state, and federal incentives. This empowers contractors to engage modern homeowners with transparent, accurate pricing and has been shown to double close rates, with some partners exceeding 70%. “We’re excited to partner with Service Nation to help contractors close more jobs,” said Josh Koplin, EDEN co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer. “About 80% of purchase decisions are made before consumers even contact companies. It helps eliminate sticker shock, automatically pulls in incentives that can make high-efficiency systems more affordable, and provides a transparent way for the contractor to more easily make the sale.” This level of digital transparency directly aligns with shifting homeowner expectations: 70% are more likely to contact contractors who publish pricing online, and 83% find online pricing helpful in their buying journey.
