This class is open to all fire service personnel who are considered Second in Command to their Head of Department. Attendees will tackle common challenges encountered in their position and will discuss innovations and strategies used in departments throughout Texas. Past history shows that these formal and informal conversations provide dynamic networking opportunities made possible by the diverse and talented professionals of the Texas Fire Service. Fire Department administrative staff carry a heavy burden. Without a strong administrative staff, organizations cannot achieve their full potential and operate efficiently. The goal of this conference is to provide position-specific training and development opportunities and to help connect FIRE/EMS administrative staff members enabling them to provide the highest level of support possible.

This webinar, hosted by the International Association of Fire Chiefs, will cover the critical aspect of retaining an adequate number of trained volunteers to respond to emergencies, as well the actions necessary to overcome periods of low staffing.

This course was developed by Coalitions & Collaboratives, Inc and the USDA Forest Service and will be hosted in partnership with Texas A&M Forest Service. Created for current or future mitigation specialists, wildfire program leads, and others who work with residents and their communities to reduce wildfire risk, the Mitigation Best Practices training covers everything from effective communication to strategic wildfire planning. You will come out with the tools to help you engage with local communities and target which prevention strategies are effective.

College Station Fire Department is spreading awareness about cancer and emphasizing prevention practices. 

Brazos County ESD No. 2 Fire Chief Joe Boyd has announced his retirement from the department, stating that it was a "great honor to serve as both the last volunteer fire chief and the first paid fire chief at a volunteer fire department in this area."

According to Fort Worth Fire Chief Jim Davis, the question “is whether or not a gas leak caused the explosion or explosion caused the gas leak."

“Chief Moore mentored and inspired many firefighters in his career and will greatly be missed,” Coffee City Fire Department said after the passing of Fire Chief Chris L. Moore.

In this episode of Fire Law Roundup, hosts Brad and Curt discuss a firefighter facing criminal charges for interfering with the operations of another fire department while off-duty, the dismissal of a lawsuit involving a woman who was struck by a wheel chock, a wrongful termination suit, and a new Houston mayor who may improve labor and management relations.

The International Association of Fire Fighters and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN), have partnered to provide informational presentation slides, fact sheets, and other resources to distribute throughout the month of January. The program covers a new topic for each week, intended to raise awareness, connect those in service with necessary resources, and provide factual information and data about cancer in the fire service industry.

"The awesome example of resilience that [Randal] brings. We don't see examples of that very often in this line of work," Fire Chief Bryan Jamison said, describing former Texas firefighter Randal Goodwin who has served firefighters through his Emergency Support Service for over 30 years.
