The Texas Commission on Fire Protection recently shared that the UT Health Trauma and Resiliency Center provides free mental health counseling via telehealth for first resonders and their families. To get set up for services immediately, call 713-486-2630.

In what made for an exciting and emotional day, Michael Guzman, Joint Base San Antonio Fire Emergency Services and 902nd Civil Engineer Squadron, was promoted to the new fire chief on June 6.

San Antonio Fire Department and EMS are distributing “temp bags” in ambulances. “Now we’re really doing it as a big effort across the county and the region to have these bags with the ambulances and have a plan to get ice to any of the big events," says Ralph Riviello, UT Health San Antonio.

Incident Safety Officer

The NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer course meets NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter Five “Incident Safety Officer.” Upon completion of this course you are eligible to schedule the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) exam, should you meet the TCFP requirements. Participants are also eligible to apply for certification through State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA). This course does NOT offer Pro Board certification.

Live Fire Instructor

The NFPA 1041 Live Fire Instructor course is designed for firefighting personnel qualified to become live fire instructors and satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter Seven, “Live Fire Instructor.” It is designed around classroom lectures, group discussions, and group exercises to enhance skills needed to act as a live fire instructor and safely provide live fire training to emergency responders. Upon completion of this course, you are eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and skills testing.

Fire Officer III

The NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III course is designed to meet the needs of fire executive management and satisfies the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter Six, “Fire Officer III.” It is designed around classroom lectures and group interactive exercises to improve your abilities to manage a fire service organization, with an emphasis on community/government relations, as well as model planning, budgeting, human resources, trends and support organizations, and emergency service delivery. This course includes a written project that requires you to develop a strategic plan. Upon completion of this course you are eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and project based testing.  Participants that receive a Pro Board certification are eligible for certification through Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) reciprocity.

Fire and Life Safety Educator I

The NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator I course is designed for the individual who coordinates and delivers community fire and risk prevention programs that intend to eliminate or mitigate situations that endanger lives, property, and the environment. The Fire and Life Safety Educator I course is designed to satisfy the job performance requirements (JPRs) of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1035 Chapter Four and provide the tools necessary to obtain certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas (SFFMA). This NOT a Pro Board Course.
