TEEX is proud to support an important research initiative led by Texas A&M University’s Department of Kinesiology and Human Movement Sciences. This study focuses on how firefighters perform essential skills and how personal protective equipment (PPE) affects body movement during those tasks. The ultimate goal is to improve how we teach these skills and promote movement patterns that reduce the risk of long-term injuries. To support this effort, the research team is seeking volunteers to participate in a 2–3 hour session this August at the TEEX Fire Field. Participants will complete four common firefighting skills—first in station wear and then in full PPE—after a brief set of body measurements. The attached flyer includes a registration link and additional details. Since funding does not cover any travel expenses, the team is especially hoping to engage firefighters within driving distance. The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC) is a 501C3 that was created and designed to help our heroes in the community with homeownership. Firefighters, EMS personnel, police, teachers, and veterans all qualify based on profession. It provides down payment and grant assistance toward a purchase of a home anywhere in Texas. It may also include a Mortgage Credit Certificate. For information, check with a mortgage professional for guidance. Visit TSAHC.ORG or reach to me stacylynn@highlandsmortgage.com for more information.

CBS News (7/28/2025)
The R3: Respond, Restore, Resolve program in Fort Worth offers first responders a groundbreaking retreat-based approach to proactively address moral injury and emotional trauma, helping them heal mentally, emotionally and spiritually away from the pressures of their high-stress jobs.
Texas Division of Emergency Management (7/24/2025)
Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request that Real County be added to President Trump's Major Disaster Declaration to secure federal assistance for flood recovery, as part of a broader effort to provide resources and support to numerous Texas communities impacted by recent catastrophic flooding.
The Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) has seen a remarkable increase in workload and productivity over the past five years. The increases in funding, staffing and equipment, provided during the 88th Legislative session were greatly appreciated and has enabled us to make tremendous strides in the services we provide. Due to the continued growth of the Texas Fire Service, we are struggling to meet our mandated inspections while managing injury and complaint investigations.
TCFP offers “regional meetings” throughout the year in a variety of locations around the state. These meetings are opportunities for members of nearby fire departments and other regulated entities to meet some of our staff in person. We want to answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and give timely updates related to commission news. In addition, through a partnership with TEEX, CE will be awarded for your attendance at these meetings. For a list of all upcoming meeting dates, visit the Regional Meetings webpage.
