The Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) is proud to announce the next installment in our Professional Development Program - The Company Officer Academy. This brand-new initiative is designed specifically for new and aspiring Company Officers. It is for those stepping into formal leadership roles for the first time as well as seasoned officers looking to sharpen their leadership capabilities. Company Officers serve as the foundation of leadership within the fire service, and this academy will provide them with the critical tools, knowledge, and real-world insights they need to succeed and grow in one of the most impactful positions in the fire service.

As we prepare to roll out the Company Officer Academy across all nine TFCA regions throughout Texas, we are calling on experienced fire service leaders to join us in shaping the future. TFCA is now forming an elite Instructor Cadre composed of Company Officers and Battalion Chiefs who are passionate about mentorship, professional development, and leadership excellence. TFCA has created a fully pre-designed and standardized curriculum, ensuring that instruction remains consistent, high quality, and aligned with the academy’s goals. This model of delivery mirrors the format used in established certification programs such as Fire Officer, Fire Instructor, or Firefighter I courses.

Qualified candidates must currently serve as a Company Officer (Lieutenant or Captain) or a Battalion Chief (District/Shift Commander) with active oversight of shift operations. Applicants should have a minimum of five years of service in one or more of these officer roles and must be graduates of the TFCA Chief Fire Executive Program or the TFCA Battalion Chief Academy. Those interested in applying are asked to submit a complete application packet, which includes a letter of interest describing their leadership journey and reasons for wanting to join the instructor cadre, a letter of recommendation from their Fire Chief, and a video resume (3–5 minutes) that introduces the candidate and highlights the leadership lessons they hope to bring to the classroom.

The application window closes June 23, 2025. Selected cadre members—up to 18 in total—will be notified by July 25, 2025. All selected instructors will be required to attend a mandatory Train-the-Trainer Workshop on August 11–12, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas.

This is more than just another training program. The TFCA Company Officer Academy represents a movement to build strong, capable, and confident leaders who will shape the future of the Texas fire service for years to come. If you are ready to lead the next generation of leaders and be part of something historic, we invite you to answer the call and join us in this exciting new endeavor.
