Recognize a Colleague with TIA's Samaritan Award

The 3PL Samaritan Award recognizes a TIA member for exceptional service and assistance to others in need. The recognized service or assistance can take any form:

  • Volunteering logistical support;
  • Providing manpower, resources, or financial support to others in need;
  • Sponsoring sporting events;
  • Providing scholarships; and
  • Hiring disabled individuals, or other areas.

The purpose of the award is to recognize the good works in which the 3PL industry engages by highlighting a specific 3PL Samaritan effort each year.

Eligibility: Any TIA Member, Associate Member, or their employees.

Process: A TIA member can nominate itself, another TIA member company, individuals, or organizations by Jan. 24, 2020.

The nomination should outline the charitable activity, providing sufficient detail for the committee to select one award recipient. A committee of TIA members will then review the nominations and make a recommendation to the TIA Foundation Board of Directors. Selections will be made by Feb. 7, 2020.

Recognition: The TIA 3PL Samaritan Award will be presented during the TIA 2020 Capital Ideas Conference & Exhibition, April 1-4, 2020, in Austin, TX.

The company can designate a charity to receive funds raised at the TIA Capital Ideas Conference. The company representative accepting the award will receive complimentary conference registration and be reimbursed for their airfare and their hotel in Austin.

Brokers Seeing Higher Margins Due To Technology Investment
InMotion Global, Inc.
It now appears the evidence is overwhelming. Brokers and 3PL’s leveraging new technology are raising their margins and lowering costs faster than those that don’t. In fact, 96% of brokers now say that technology like AscendTMS, TriumphPay, Smart Capacity, and Cargo Chief’s new human-like robot called Booking Assistant are helping to quickly eliminate labor costs and raise profit margins. Moreover, the right technology, when used properly, is clearly crowning the winners in the brokerage space.

We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season and a safe, prosperous New Year.

On Dec. 18, 2019, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published in the Federal Register a notice and request for comments on the Beyond Compliance program. The FAST Act requires FMCSA to allow recognition, including credit or an improved Safety Measurement System (SMS) percentile, for motor carriers that: (1) Install advanced safety equipment; (2) use enhanced driver fitness measures; (3) adopt fleet safety management tools, technologies, and programs; or (4) satisfy other standards determined appropriate by the Administrator.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed the United States, Mexico, Canada Agreement (USMCA), the update to NAFTA, sending it to the Senate for ratification. The legislation to implement the new trade deal includes a provision that would affect U.S.- and Mexico-based companies that provide cross-border, long-haul trucking services between the two countries.

The government spending deal negotiated between House Democrats and Senate Republicans does not include language previously passed by the House requiring the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to republish its CSA scores and alerts, which were removed from public view under the FAST Act. The spending deal would, however, prod the agency on making National Academies of Sciences recommendations on improving the CSA program.

The government spending deal reached by Congressional Republicans and Democrats includes the SECURE Act (H.R. 1994), retirement reform legislation that was passed by the House of Representatives earlier this year but had stalled in the Senate.
