Industry News and Advocacy

Last month, California State Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-5th District) introduced Senate Bill 1039. The bill, known as the “The Independent Worker Rights Act of 2020," would establish legislative findings regarding the intent of the legislature to develop a modern policy framework that facilitates independent work for those who voluntarily choose it. It would do so by creating a third classification of workers with basic rights and protections relative to work opportunities, including minimum wage and occupational accident coverage.

On behalf of TIA and our 1,800 member companies in all 50 states, we are urging – in the strongest sense of the word – Congress to set aside the partisan politics and pass an emergency stimulus package immediately. Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) is working with the Trump Administration, federal agencies and Congress on addressing the concerns of our members during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) global pandemic. The Senate recently passed H.R. 6201, the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act.” This legislation, which will be signed into law by President Trump shortly, addresses leave benefits in two (2) ways, detailed below.

Moreover, the right technology, when used properly, is clearly crowning the winners in the brokerage space.

"As an HR professional working in the logistics industry, I have gained some understanding of the transportation and logistics world from my co-workers and being involved in the business. However, I never had the framework from the ground up—this course grew my knowledge immensely and gave me that foundation. It has increased my confidence to engage in conversations and it has earned me additional respect from my fellow logistics team members. I am very happy that I am now certified!" – Erica Wertanen, CTB - Automated Logistics Systems
