Make a Resolution to Get More Involved with TIA in 2019

There’s no better way to start the New Year than by taking a more active role in TIA, enabling you to impact the direction and policy positions of the Association and the 3PL industry. A great way to get involved is to participate in one of TIA’s Policy Committees. These Committees are overseen by four major “Conferences,” which cover all the major modes of transportation. The Conferences are:

Airfreight Logistics Conference
Overview: The Airfreight Logistics Conference is responsible for all issues related to air freight. Additionally, the members of the committee will serve as liaisons between TIA and the Airfreight Forwarders Association (AFA).

The major issues of interest that are currently before the Conference include: Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) regulations and the mandate on scanning and screening of cargo.

The Chair of the Airfreight Logistics Conference is Brandon Arnold, CTB, Vice President for Intelligent Logistics, LLC. The TIA staff point of contact is Will Sehestedt.

Highway Logistics Conference
Overview: The Highway Logistics Conference is responsible for all issues related to truck transportation. The major issues of interest that are currently before Conference include: MAP-21 Implementation, Hours of Service (HOS), EOBRs, truck size and weight, definition of a tank vehicle, driver detention time, Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Agreement, highway funding, household goods issues, broker bond implementation and interlining, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sanitary transportation of human and animal food proposed regulations, and the Mexican Cross Border Pilot Program. The Committee includes Environmental & Hazardous Materials Subcommittee and Carrier Selection Framework Subcommittee.

The Chair of the Highway and Logistics Conference is Lynn Gravley, President and CEO of NT Logistics, Inc. The TIA staff point of contact is Chris Burroughs.

International Logistics Conference
Overview: The International Logistics Conference is responsible for all issues related to the global supply chain. The Committee will examine and develop policies pertaining to the international movement of goods and the development of the TIA Canadian Cross-border Framework. Additionally, members of this Committee will serve as liaison between TIA and the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America.

The major issues of interest that are currently before the Conference include: Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Rulemaking on OTI bonding requirements, port labor issues, FIATA, and the mandate on scanning and screening of cargo.

The Chair for the International Logistics Conference is Jim Damman, President of Mode Transportation. The TIA staff point of contact is Will Sehestedt.

Intermodal Logistics Conference
Overview: The Intermodal Logistics Committee is responsible for all issues related to rail relations and intermodal transportation. Additionally, the members of the Intermodal Logistics Conference will serve as liaisons between TIA and the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA).

The Chair of the Intermodal Logistics Conference is Shelli Austin, President of Intek Logistics. The TIA staff point of contact is Chris Burroughs.
