Call Your Senators Today – Major Deadline for the National Hiring Standard

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

This week, the U.S. Senate is discussing amendments and policy items that will be considered as part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization. The House has already passed their version of the reauthorization, which included a National Hiring Standard for motor carriers. TIA needs you to act today to contact your Senators and support language championed by Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE).

Please click HERE to learn more information and to contact your Senators. Tell them that you support the National Hiring Standard for motor carriers, and that you need their help to include this important provision in the Senate version of the FAA Reauthorization.

This language will improve highway safety by creating a standard of care for hiring motor carriers. Currently, no standard of care exists. Under this language, an entity hiring a motor carrier would be required to ensure that the carrier is properly registered, has obtained the minimum required insurance, and does not have an unsatisfactory safety rating. This will help to remove unsafe carriers from our nation’s highways and eliminate the liability traps plaguing the 3PL industry.

Timing is critical for this issue. Lawmakers and their staff need to hear from the 3PL industry TODAY. Please click HERE, and then follow the prompts to take action. As you provide your information, the contact information for your Senate delegation, and talking points from TIA about the National Hiring Standard, will show on your screen. If you fill in the “response” portion of the page after your call, TIA staff will follow up directly with those offices.

Thanks very much for your dedication to improving safety and supporting your industry. Please click HERE and contact the Senate today!
