As I prepare to draft my message to our remarkable members for this new year, I am torn between a reflective and a visionary approach, so decided I would do a little of both. I will begin with our mission statement-to advocate and influence exceptional care delivery in Texas through Nurse Leaders! I believe that is what we did each and every day of this past year as we were all challenged to go above and beyond the oath we took to continue to care for others.

How has TONL contributed to your career?
TONL has helped develop my day-to-day leadership skills. In addition, I was been able to network with other nurse leaders in Texas as we work together to face challenges specific to rural Texas.

Background in the nursing field?
I became a nurse in 1993 and worked in critical care and emergency care areas, until I made the transition to perinatal care, where I was a staff nurse, nurse manager, assistant director, and now an administrative director. I received my ADN degree in 1993, BSN in 1996, and MSN in 2018.

What are your plans for future growth?
I plan to continue to develop myself as nurse leader through continuing my professional education and by being open to accepting new challenges and opportunities that I am offered.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the interaction with others and the team approach we use to get the work done, day in and day out.

Personal Tidbit
I serve in my local church as a Stephens Minister, offering Christian friend to walk along side others in their time of need.

Community Involvement/Service
I serve on various local organizational committees, as well as the Texas Perinatal Association at the state level.
