Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a prolific writer and pioneering aviator, once said, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” As the Texas Organization for Nursing Leadership (TONL) and its chapters welcome their new board members, let’s take this opportunity to take stock of what the organization has accomplished and plan for the future. As we all recognize, planning lets us set a vision for the future that would likely increase the achievement of our goals. The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL, 2022) stipulates that the ability to strategically plan for the future of our organization is a necessary skill in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment. Ulrich (2021) reminds us that planning for the future should not detract us from the work of the present, especially as we continue to recover and transition from the pandemic of the last couple of years.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new mentorship program. The mentorship program promotes communication and professional relationships between mentees ready and willing to learn, and our TONL mentors who are experienced, energetic and committed professionals eager to contribute to the future excellence of our profession. Mentors share their experiences, offer advice and encouragement, answer questions and act as leaders/advisors to the mentee to whom they are assigned.

An experienced TONL member (“Mentor”) will commit to a partnership with a new TONL member (“Mentee”) for the purpose of providing guidance. Mentorship is defined as familiarizing mentee with TONL and TONL resources, urging mentee to be an active member by serving with a committee, advancing mentee’s professional knowledge via networking and educational opportunities, and providing mentee with support to be a leader within TONL and among nurse leaders if they so choose.

For more information and to enroll as either a mentor or a mentee, please visit our mentorship form and sign up today. We look forward to a wonderful program helping each other grow!
The TONL Board annually surveys its members to ascertain the value that members receive from the services and programs of TONL. This provides information that helps us strategically plan to meet your needs.

Your answers will be used to ensure TONL is meeting member needs. Responses to these questions are optional, but your input is appreciated. We hope you take a few minutes to complete this survey.
