The TONL Annual Virtual Conference opened – with Dr. Jane McCurley, TONL President, welcoming 230 attendees, and recognizing of the generosity of business sponsors supporting the Conference and professional education of nurse leaders across Texas. Specifically recognized were Gretchen Hunt and the TONL Education Committee for their work in organizing and developing the Conference. Appreciation was given to Texas Health Resources, providing CEUs. Credit can be received for 8.75 CEUs with sessions available for 60 days following the closure of the Conference.

The Texas Organization for Nursing Leadership (TONL) Board of Directors have approved proposed changes to the TONL Bylaws, which were submitted by the TONL Bylaws Committee. The primary purpose of the proposed changes is to formalize a TONL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

The TONL Board of Directors respectfully submits the proposed changes to the TONL Membership for your review for 30 days. Once the 30-day period is complete, we will ask for the TONL membership to vote on the proposed updated Bylaws. Please review the proposed changes and the justification for the proposed changes Bylaws by clicking on the buttons below.

The Excellence in Leadership Award is given each year to a TONL Member who provides a mechanism for the interchange of ideas and dissemination of information regarding nursing practice and legislative issues. The recipient promotes education and other professional activities through serving as a role model and mentor as well as sharing their knowledge through presentations, seminars, publications, etc.

Rebecca (Becky) Geist, DNP, RN, SAA, PHNA- BC, Faith Community Nurse, is an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in the Accelerated BSN programs. She has a diverse background as a nurse leader in hospital-based outpatient specialty areas and public-school nursing.  She serves on a local Independent School District's School Health Advisory Committee, focusing on improving and promoting children's health with decision-makers in the public-school system. She was recently appointed to the Lubbock Voice of Hope Board. She is a member of the Texas Organization of Nurse Leaders, Texas Nurse's Association, Association of Community Health Nursing Educators, and Sigma Theta Tau. She has served in various committee roles. She was one of Lubbock's YWCA Women of Excellence in 2019 for her work in the community focusing on Human Sex Trafficking.  She is currently serving as a committee member for the TTUHSC Human Trafficking Collaborative and the West Texas Scholars for Child Sex Trafficking Research Program with the Office of Governor Greg Abbott. 

TONL is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2021 TONL Scholarship Program, Viji George and Nkemdirim Egu. TONL Scholarships are awarded to applicants enrolled in an accredited graduate program in Nursing at the masters or doctoral level. Applicants much demonstrate community service involvement and must submit a recommendation from a community service or volunteer agency.
