TONE Strategic Plan 2016-2018

The TONE Strategic Planning Committee is honored to present our 2016-2018 Strategic Plans to its members. The key priorities are aligned with the AONE Strategic Plan and include:

  • Developing nurse leaders for the current and future healthcare system.
  • Support the design and implementation of care delivery and population health management models across the care continuum.
  • Support the provision of safe, quality care in delivery systems grounded in healthful practice environments.
  • Communicate the value of nursing in healthcare across the continuum to all stakeholders.
  • Creating a sustainable and vibrant TONE organization.

The key priorities are supported by objectives and measures aligned with the TONE Core Business of Nurse Leader Education, Engage Membership, Leadership Development, Public Policy and Advocacy, and Innovation. The executive team would like to extend a very warm-hearted thank you to our board members and member volunteers who will serve on the established committees. The committee’s next steps are to review the objectives and measures and determine the key milestones which assist the TONE Board in tracking progress and successes of the plan.

Many of the strategies are very exciting and were developed to meet the needs of our members, align with key organizations, and develop emerging leaders through career coaching. As we look at the current and future healthcare environment, creating opportunities for emerging leaders is one way we can prepare our members to face these challenges. Each Board member is committed to identifying an emerging leader to coach inclusive of sitting in on a Board meeting or call. Further expansion of developing emerging leaders will extend to our TONE members in leadership positions who will coach these leaders utilizing AONE leadership competencies.

Our mission of representing nurse leaders in Texas who improve healthcare through collaboration and innovation-led the strategic planning committee to produce education and dissemination measures for best practices. These measures will develop resources to ensure nurses have the tools needed to enhance quality, patient experience, and safety within their organizations. The measures plan to also share best practices which demonstrate the link between nursing leadership, nurse sensitive indicators, quality, and value to validate the contribution of nursing to patient outcomes across all care settings.

Susan Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, is presently theRobert Wood Johnson Foundation senior adviser for nursing. Dr. Hassmiller tells nursing leaders they should never enter a meeting without someone half their age in attendance. The time is now for nursing leaders to commit to developing our leaders of the future and it is an integral part of the 2016-2018 TONE Strategic Plan.
