Chief Nursing Officer Wins State Leadership Award

AUSTIN, Texas—On Jan. 23, 2015, Jane McCurley, chief nursing officer at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, was awarded the 2014 Texas Organization of Nurse Executive (TONE) Excellence in Leadership Award. TONE is the Texas affiliate of AONE (American Organization of Nurse Executives), which recognizes leaders and experts in the field of nursing at state and national levels.

"It is a privilege to lead an outstanding group of professional nurses and staff at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center," McCurley said. "I am honored to have been chosen among the many exceptional nursing leaders who make a meaningful impact on our profession every day."

The Excellence in Leadership Award is granted on an annual basis to an active TONE member who provides a mechanism for the interchange of ideas and dissemination of information regarding nursing practice and legislative issues; promotes education and other professional activities through serving as a role model and mentor; and shares his or her knowledge through presentations, seminars and publications.

McCurley was chosen as the award winner by a selection committee comprised of TONE board members.

"We are fortunate to have a chief nursing office who truly cares about both our patients and our staff," Allen Harrison, chief executive officer at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, said. "Jane is most deserving of this award."

McCurley has served as a chief nursing officer in Texas for 13 years and has been a nurse for more than 35 years. She has served in this role at St. David’s North Austin Medical since 2012. In addition to serving in a hospital leadership position, McCurley is active in numerous professional organizations. She currently serves on TONE board as president-elect, she is on the Political Action Committee of AONE, and she is a regional nurse leader for the Central West Texas Team Coalition. Additionally, she serves on the board of the Pflugerville Education Foundation and on the Pflugerville Independent School district Teacher of the Year Selection Committee.

"Jane McCurley is an outstanding nurse executive and leader," Cole Edmonson, DNP, president of TONE, said. "Her passion for nursing excellence, innovation and transformation are second only to her extreme dedication to supporting clinical nurses and mentoring the next generation of nurse leaders."

McCurley is devoted to educating the next generation of nurses. In addition to numerous keynote-speaking addresses, she is a Neal Kocurek Mentor for the St. David’s Foundation and a lead reviewer for the American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence program.
