The purpose of the ongoing collaborative between CNOs and academic deans and directors from Texas Schools of Nursing is to discuss issues that address nursing in the work place and nursing education, specifically preparation for entering the work place. Workshop meetings occur twice a year, alternating between location in Dallas and in Austin.

A survey was completed earlier in the year to identify the top three challenges and the top five topics to be discussed and addressed by the collaborative.

Top 3 challenges

  • Workforce shortages (nurses and qualified faculty)
  • Education gaps for new nurses
  • Transition into practice

Top 5 topics

  • Innovative, collaborative programs between academia and industry
  • "Practice-ready" graduate nurses (all levels)
  • Changing role of nursing
  • Creative site placements/availability
  • Clinically relevant research, EBP/QI projects with academic partners
