Chairman's Message by Josh Holland: Safety Leadership

Safety Leadership

In our organization, safety is often at the forefront of everything we do – as well it should be. Many studies point to the importance of having safety leadership at all levels, which can improve the safety climate and culture of a workplace. Having a strong and healthy safety culture helps lead to an injury-free workplace. This is not only a precursor to superior safety records but to excellence in environmental stewardship and product quality. I would encourage all of us to remain critical of our safety programs and practices and to continually look to improve them and prevent complacency.

I’m looking forward to TMRA’s Annual Meeting this year at the Galvez in Galveston, TX on October 20-22. Be sure to register at www.TMRA.com if you haven’t already. There are many things I look forward to each year at the Annual Meeting such as connecting with others in the industry, the excellent presentations and witnessing the industries generous commitment to Texas teacher at the auction.

Each year at the meeting, I also enjoy seeing how so many of our owner/operator members operate with superior safety records and then receive deserved recognition for doing so. I would like to congratulate, in advance, those companies receiving recognition at this year’s meeting for their commitment and leadership in safety. I’d also like to thank the safety committee for the work they do in making this safety recognition possible.

I’ll leave you with a slogan used at our mine for many years: “Safety first. Environment second. Then production.”

Best to you all,

Joshua Holland
