2017 Sentinels of Safety Award

The National Mining Association (NMA) awarded the 2017 Sentinels of Safety Award to the Luminant Kosse Mine for outstanding safety performance in the Large Surface Coal Group. In recognition of the achievement, the NMA will have a presentation and tribute to the 2017 award winners on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 in Washington, DC. Sentinels of Safety are awarded annually to the nation’s safest mines with a minimum of 4,000 injury-free hours. The awards were initiated in 1925 by then-Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover and remain the nation’s most prestigious awards recognizing mining safety. For 2017, the employees of Kosse Mine worked 723,776 safe hours.
