In 2024, the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) initiated the NIBS Collaboration Academy, which helps improve the fields’ collaboration knowledge on real projects and teaches project managers and team members how to collaboratively solve problems.

The goal of the academy is to provide the multiple public and private stakeholders involved with federal government design and construction projects with data driven strategies to enhance professional collaboration to support PDC projects in meeting intended operational and financial outcomes. The NIBS Collaboration Academy was developed with support from organizations across the country including:

  • American Society for Healthcare Engineering
  • Associated Builders & Contractors
  • Associated General Contractors of America
  • Defense Health Agency
  • Design-Build Institute or American
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • General Services Administration
  • Lane Construction Corporation
  • MD Anderson Cancer Center
  • MedStar Health
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology
  • National Institutes of Health
  • Smithsonian Institution
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

In January 2025, the NIBS Collaboration Academy will be launching a Federal Project Collaboration Study and will be making study participation available for ASHE members. Participation in the survey will provide ASHE members with access to information on the collaboration issues the largest U.S federal agencies face when working with public and private partners on design and construction projects, as well as the opportunity to connect in person with thought leaders from those federal agencies.

If you have any questions about the upcoming NIBS Collaboration Academy Federal Project Collaboration Study, please contact Adam Bazer at abazer@aha.org.
