How has TAHFM/ASHE contributed to your career?
Both TAHFM and ASHE have allowed me to be active in networking and continued education. They have also provided an abundance of knowledge from various vendors about compliance, survey readiness, and new technologies that are available for Facilities Management.

What is your background in the healthcare facilities field?
I started Healthcare Facilities about five years ago as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Facilities. I had no idea of the complexities of facilities management until new responsibilities were added to my title, which included our supply management. I decided to learn more about the plant and other things to better understand what I was ordering and why. I fell in love with the idea of facilities engineering being the heart of the whole hospital. Then I began looking into the EOC and LS portion of facilities and obtained the CHSP and CHEP. Once I had a good safety foundation, I wanted to use and enhance my knowledge with facilities management. I was able to apply what I learned over the three years with facilities and almost two years in safety management (along with sleepless nights of studying, of course) to obtain the CHFM.

Tell us a Personal Tidbit.
My favorite thing to do on my free time is create dance choreography with my daughter. The art of dance has been as part of my life for over 20 years.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy being able to provide insight to how facilities management and safety management are partners. I also enjoy providing education to staff of the "WHY Behind" Safety and Facilities Management.

What are your plans for future growth?
I plan to become more involved with TAHFM volunteering and benchmarking to continue to expand my knowledge in facilities management. I would like to be a part of training and education for new facilities engineers, as well as developing innovative ideas to have a bigger presence in areas like Austin.
