Certifications I am seeking to obtain a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) within the next 3 months.
How has TAHFM/ASHE contributed to your career? TAHFM has graciously awarded me with the Rufus J. Cleghorn, Jr. Memorial Scholarship to aid in the expenses of obtaining my bachelor's degree in business administration. ASHE provided me with training and prep for my CHFM exam.
Background into the field of healthcare facilities Prior to joining the team here at Cook Children's Medical Center I worked in various manufacturing facilities as a plant mechanic/utilities supervisor. In 2021 I took the leap into healthcare, and I felt an actual calling for the first time in my career. I decided then that this was the path I wanted to pursue for my future.
Personal Tidbit I am 35 years old, a single father of 2 wonderful kids (16 y/o daughter and 12 y/o son). Most of my time away from the office is spent at their sporting events but in my free time I enjoy going to the gym or spending the day fishing.
What do you enjoy most about your job? The most enjoyable part of my job now has to be interacting with the children on campus. Although they may not see what the facilities does day to day, getting to aid in setting up the special events we host at the hospital for the children brings a sense of pride and joy for the work I do.
What are your plans for future growth? For the short term I plan to obtain the CHFM certification and continue working towards my bachelor's degree. Long term I plan to continue with my education on to an MBA along with obtaining the CHC certification while continuing to progress with in the great organization of Cook Children's.
