How has TAHFM/ASHE contributed to your career?
TAHFM and ASHE have been the springboard that helped me get over stage fright by improving my presentation skills and forcing me to get socially involved with other peers and colleagues in our industry. Networking and sharing/discussing best practices are the key to improving yourself, your facility, and your organization.

What is your background in the healthcare facilities field?
I started out as an apprentice entry level power plant engineer, progressed up the career ladder, migrated to hospital facilities engineering and operations, earned a U of H MBA before my 40th birthday (a personal goal), and have since served as the subject matter expert and leader for facilities, central plant operations, construction, renovations, TJC, and energy management. I am currently at the Vice President level for one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in Texas.

Tell us a Personal Tidbit.
In my off time you will find me building fence, cutting brush, working cattle, building new barns, driving tractors, and doing other chores on the Ranch. I work harder on weekends than during the week!

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The broad responsibility that I have placed on myself to improve our healthcare facilities—both the physical environment, operating/energy efficiency, building better buildings, resolving deferred maintenance, and replacing aged infrastructure—and getting to grow new leaders with a focus on promotions from within our organization is what I enjoy about my job, every single day!

What are your plans for future growth?
I am currently a candidate for President-Elect of ASHE and ask for all TAFHM/ASHE members to help me “get out the vote” and elect me to this esteemed position with ASHE. (P.S. I was short by only 60 votes last election cycle, so TAHFM membership is key to my success!)
