ASHE Update
American Society for Healthcare Engineering The Joint Commission will emphasize management of clinical alarms starting Jan. 1, 2016, as part of its National Patient Safety Goal on clinical alarms.
 
American Society for Healthcare Engineering The winter 2015 edition of Inside ASHE magazine is now available online. This edition is focused on career development, but also includes an important article about ASHRAE 188 and a feature story on how St. Joseph's Hospital won an ASHE award for its efforts to reduce falls.
 
American Society for Healthcare Engineering ASHE has posted new resources on how to comply with medical gas storage, safety hazard, and air flow requirements from the Joint Commission. The new resources are part of the Focus on Compliance project, which provides tools to address common findings from the Joint Commission.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration has created a new webpage featuring strategies and tools for preventing workplace violence in health care settings. According to OSHA, the rate of serious workplace violence incidents was more than four times higher in health care settings than the private industry average. The webpage is designed to support OSHA's Guidelines for Preventing Workplace Violence for Healthcare and Social Service Workers, which describes the five components of an effective workplace violence prevention program.
