How has TAHFM/ASHE contributed to your career?
I have been involved in the construction and healthcare related industry for 10+ years. I have worked in healthcare systems all around Texas and Florida. I attended my 1st TAHFM conference in 2021 and was blown away by all the familiar faces at this event. Facility managers from all over Texas were in attendance and eager to learn. Sitting side my side in with various facility managers, prominent contributors to healthcare construction success, and my peers was an experience like no other. I was witnessing lessons learned presentations, new upcoming advancements in healthcare, and new problems/solutions being solved by facility managers themselves and construction management. While meeting with the individuals at this event, I was able to explain the myriad of services that I and Campos Engineering were able to provide them to keep patient care at a all-time high, life safety a top concern, and overall well-being of their Campus to keep them growing into the future. I will continue to attend at a minimum one annual conference at TAHFM or ASHE each year due to the takeaway I got at my first conference. I want to stay at the forefront of healthcare and the TAFHM/ASHE platform is one of the best ways to accomplish that goal.

Background into the field of healthcare facilities
Unfortunately, there’s no real compelling story about my background into healthcare facilities. One of the first projects I was assigned to when I started working at Campos right after college, was a new 9-story patient tower for Midland Memorial Hospital. Since then, I have been involved in over 250 individual projects and worked with more than 15 different healthcare systems, ranging from major healthcare systems to rural regional hospitals Ten years later, while the sectors of projects that I’m involved in range, healthcare facilities are the predominate types of projects that I’m involved in, that I’m most passionate about, and that bring me the most satisfaction. Projects related to critical care units, such as NICU’s, Level 1 Trauma centers, burn units, catherization labs, ORs, isolation suites, and sterile processing departments have become my “favorite” ones to be a part of and where I really enjoy sharing my knowledge. There’s a sense of pride that comes with knowing that, in a way, you are contributing to patient care

Personal Tidbit
I love enjoying the outdoors, hiking, skiing, and obstacle courses. Anything my wife, family, friends, and I can do to keep pushing myself and seeing more of the world is always on the table for me.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
First and foremost, as an engineer I would have to say problem solving is what started my interest in this industry. Knowing no 2 projects will ever be the same, and more importantly that I am contributing to something bigger than myself. I make sure that everything under my scope is fully functional and ready for occupancy, because I know at some point my friends, family, co-workers will be in a healthcare facility seeking help. But as I have grown in my role at Campos Engineering, I have begun to equally value the relationships built between contractors, design professionals, owners, facilities managers, etc. It’s fulling for me to hear that we all have a common goal…” for the better good”.

My thorough approach towards meeting healthcare related projects requirements and knowledge of projects ranging from renovations to new construction and small to large is integral in delivering my high quality and reliable service. I envision continuing into the healthcare sector for the next 10+ years and expanding my services and knowledge based on new technology and experiences that I haven’t had yet. Training the future leaders that take interest in the healthcare industry will be a big component of transferring knowledge gained to the next tier of guys and gals in the professional field services sector. Lastly, I want to continue to partner myself with great people, companies, and organizations to help me grow as a person and expand my reach in Texas and even nationally.
