How has TAHFM/ASHE contributed to your career?
Advocacy- At ASHE and TAHFM events, I have been able to speak directly with the leaders of deeming agencies (TJC, DNV and even CMS) to discuss issues related to codes and standards Knowledge- Having the opportunity to learn tips and tactics from my peers on a number of subjects such as reliability, efficiency nd sustainability helps me run my operations in a more efficient manner. Information Sharing- I have presented at a number of TAHFM conferences and enjoy sharing tips and experiences with other Facility managers Networking- Meeting people in the industry, learning how they have solved a similar problem I have had, or just enjoying the company of like-minded industry professionals is very satisfying.

Background into the field of healthcare facilities
I began my carrier in construction. I was a carpenter for a number of years and went to work at a major hospital in the Texas Medical Center as a carpenter. I was able to work my way up to Supervisor of Construction Services. I then attended BOMA to learn more about hospital facilities equipment, earning a SMT and SMA designation. I then attended college at night, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I became a Facility manager in 2008 and a director in 2010. I have been a facility Director continuously since then.

Personal Tidbit
Not much to tell, Native Texan, native Houstonian. Been married 47 years (same woman), love the outdoors, love spending the day on my tractor.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The people I work with. I really enjoy the interaction with other departments. We have a great bunch of people here, and at other hospitals I have worked with. We do important, serious work, but we don't always have to be serious when we do it.

What are your plans for future growth?
Quite frankly, I am at the back end of my career. I do not intend to stop learning and growing and will be attending seminars and conferences to that end. I have no job growth aspirations and will be happy to retire from my present position.
