eTXAPA Newsletter
Up Front
TXAPA and Women of Asphalt Texas are committed to bring our industry a game-changing workforce development campaign. Last month we kicked off with surveys directed at upper management. We've gotten incredible response and are ready to move to the next step which is to release an employee survey. We believe our current team members will likely be the most critical voices in this process. Their insights are crucial to understanding how we can meet our next generation workforce where they are and position TXAPA members as the opportunity they seek. You will receive an email with links to the employee survey in both English and Spanish along with suggestions for best results.

If you are a member of management, we ask that you PLEASE take a moment and facilitate your teams taking these surveys, particularly those that are in positions you are currently struggling to attract talent in.

If your manager asks you to take this survey, we thank you in advance for your valuable assistance. Your participation will help us to get the word out about opportunities in our industry to great people like you!

We understand this is a busy season and appreciate your effort in helping us get the best input possible to make these decisions and build a campaign that can really move the needle. Be on the lookout for an email with more information and detail coming from Emily Adams soon!

You may have seen the recent article submitted to Texas Asphalt Magazine by Longview Asphalt detailing their project US 59 in Harrison County. If you haven’t, I urge you to check it out.

We want to feature other great projects, so we are calling on our members for submissions

Do you have a recent project you are especially proud of? Send us the following details:

  1. What is the size of the project?
  2. When was it built?
  3. What are some unique attributes of the project that readers will find interesting? (For example, is it a test section, does it utilize new technology, is it replacing a road constructed of another material, is a special project such as a racetrack or runway?)
  4. Pictures! High-resolution images of the project are a must.

If your project is selected, we will ask for a write-up about the project (can be brief or more in-depth, like this example).

You may consider including the following:

  • Materials: Tell us about the mix-design and the materials in the design; the materials-provider
  • Specifications: Tell us about your QC/QA test results at the plant and in the field; mix production quality and mat quality
  • Constructability: Tell us your biggest success and your biggest challenge with constructability

Let’s promote asphalt pavement in Texas by showing over 5,000 subscribers what we can do!

Hurry and book your rooms before the block sells out.

To ensure that your road travels go smoothly, here are a few things you should do before and during your highway adventure:

  1. Check your tire tread and pressure to save on fuel and lower the risk of a blowout.
  2. Save gas by setting your cruise control on long stretches.
  3. If you must pull over, turn on your hazards and pull over as far into the breakdown lane as possible.
  4. Pack your car properly. The heaviest items should be up front on the floor. Secure loose items and strap down large items. Leave clear visibility.
  5. Share driving responsibilities every 50 miles to avoid road weariness.
  6. Check your fluids. Make sure your oil, antifreeze and washer fluid are good.
