 The TXAPA 45TH Annual Meeting takes place Sept. 17-20, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, TX. Last year we RAISED THE BAR and in 2019, we're taking it to a whole new level as we ACCELERATE TO EXCELLENCE! Every year, our generous sponsors play a crucial role in making the TXAPA Annual Meeting one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.  The TXAPA Golf Tournament will take place on Tuesday, September 17. We'll be playing the Hill Country Golf Club's 27-hole resort course. We will follow our usual four-person team scramble format. The top 10 teams will be entered into a first, second and third place prize drawing. The winners will be chosen at the Welcome Night Casino Party later in the evening. There will be several hole contests, including the infamous extortion hole, and mulligans will be available for purchase. Handicaps will not be used. Itinerary and Registration The tournament fee includes green fees, cart fees, range balls, box lunch, beverages on the course and awards.

 Spouses and guests not attending Technical Sessions can join us for a day at one of San Antonio's hottest spots for shopping and dining. Wednesday, September 18, we will celebrate our Quality Asphalt Pavement and QC/QA Technician award winners with a special luncheon. The Quality Asphalt Pavement and QC/QA Technician Awards Luncheon is an excellent opportunity for TXAPA members and our TxDOT partners to share a delicious meal in recognition of our winners and nominees who work hard each year building quality roads for the great State of Texas. Quality Asphalt Pavement Awards are awarded for both TxDOT and Non-TxDOT projects. QC/QA Technician of the Year is awarded in four categories, Level 1A, Level 1B, Level 2 and Soils. Candidates are nominated by their peers and then chosen by committee. All awards winners receive a plaque and are featured in Texas Asphalt magazine and on the TXAPA or Hot Mix Asphalt Center websites. The Quality Asphalt Pavement and QC/QA Technician Awards honor those who dedicate their careers to quality asphalt pavements. Generously Sponsored by: R.K. Bowen will lead our Scholarship Night Celebration with his distinctive Texas Country/Red Dirt sound. A Waco native and graduate of Texas Tech, he released the first of his 11 albums in 2002 and has been a staple of the Texas Music scene ever since. Join us on the dancefloor and kick up your heels!

Technically Speaking
The TxDOT Highway Letting is Sep. 5-6, 2019. The TxDOT Letting Report, brought to you by Whitley & Siddons, is both emailed separately and posted to the TXAPA website around the end of each month. Please note that Tack Coat is now a bid item and is listed separately on the report in gallons.
Our industry requires the constant handling of liquid asphalt and hot asphalt pavement. While PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) can help protect against burns and injury, it is only a secondary line of defense. Proper handling techniques and awareness are necessary to prevent injuries. In the event that hot liquid asphalt or hot asphalt pavement comes in contact with your skin, here are a few treatment tips.
 According to the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) Life Cycle Cost Analysis, or LCCA, is a process for evaluating the total economic worth of a useable project segment by analyzing initial costs and discounted future costs, such as maintenance, reconstruction, rehabilitation, restoring, and resurfacing costs, over the life of the project segment. Join TXAPA and Dr. David Newcomb of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute and learn the fundamentals of LCCA.

 The Asphalt Road-eo Student Competiton will be held Fri.-Sat., Dec. 6-7, 2019 at the TXAPA Campus in Buda, TX. Once again we will be offering sponsorships for the event and holding a career fair on the competition day. Stay tuned for more details.
 TXAPA is excited to announce that this year, we will host our first ever Winter Classic Golf Tournament at La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the TXAPA Scholarship Program. Directly after the tournament we’ll head straight into the Membership Meeting. Our goal is to expand the Membership Meeting, offering more education and content making it a must-attend event for our members. No matter what the weather, we’re going to get together as an industry for a good cause and go out there and have fun!
