 As the summer heat rolls in, one of the biggest parts about ensuring that you stay hydrated and feel good throughout the workday is what you do the night before. Another factor is what you do in the morning before you come to work. Most people like to drink their coffee in the mornings without having any breakfast, but before you know it you'll be out in the heat and your body won't be ready for it. Unfortunately, the Texas heat can't be controlled, but we can do our part to make sure that it doesn't affect us nearly as much.
 When used for pavement preservation, thin overlays or thinlays are applied to the pavement surface in order to extend pavement life while improving ride quality and skid resistance.
 Despite the wealth of information available from OSHA on the Respirable Crystalline Silica Ruling, there is a still a lot to understand about how workers are exposed and how to protect them. Employers are also exposed to litigation and citations if they don't properly understand how to comply with the OSHA ruling. Doug Wilcox summarizes some of the most common compliance issues in order to minimize exposures and avoid penalties!

 TXAPA is proud to announce that we have contracted keynote speaker Mike Abrashoff to speak at the 45th TXAPA Annual Meeting, ACCELERATE TO EXCELLENCE! Abrashoff took command of the worst-performing Navy ship in the Pacific Fleet and made it #1 in twelve months – using the very same crew. This ship was actually, in many ways, an extreme example of some of the same problems which many organizations are facing today. What drove the success was Abrashoff’s realization that if things were to improve, the first thing that needed to change was his leadership style.
 TXAPA is excited to announce that this year, we will host our first ever winter golf tournament at La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the TXAPA Scholarship Program. Directly after the tournament we’ll head straight into the Membership Meeting. Our goal is to expand the Membership Meeting, offering more education and content and making it a must-attend event for our members. No matter what the weather, we’re going to get together as an industry for a good cause and go out there and have fun!

Certification News From The HMAC
 The Hot Mix Asphalt Center is rebranding! As the center's scope has expanded well beyond Hot Mix Asphalt, going forward it will be known simply as HMAC Training & Certification. This is a perfect time to make the change as it coincides with the the facility's renovations which begin in 2018 and are set to be 100% complete this June. The new logo (as seen above) will begin appearing on all HMAC apparrel and media, such as stationery, the HMAC website, and documents.
