TXAPA SPECIFICATION DEVELOPMENT FOR LOW VOLUME ROADWAYS

In response to inquiries concerning asphalt pavement specifications for low volume roadways, TXAPA has developed a proposed specification for city, county and private development projects. In conjunction with Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), TXAPA developed a specification that is currently being reviewed by industry partners. Recently, members Mike Brown, APAC Wheeler, and Chuck Fuller, Ramming Paving Company, along with TXAPA staff, presented the specification to the Capitol Area Pavement Engineers Council (CAPEC) for their review. During the meeting several points were made on how the specification could be improved from an owner’s point of view and the need to have additional specifications that could address higher volume roadway demands. Plans are underway to finalize the low volume roadway specification and address the need for additional specifications. Once the specifications are finalized, they will be distributed to members and industry partners for implementation.
