Registration Now Open: Fundamentals of Asphalt+New Technology and Paving and Compaction Seminars

The Fundamentals of Asphalt+New Technology, and Paving and Compaction seminars will take place October 9/10, 23/24, 30/31, and November 14/15. Day one is calibrated for engineers, designers, and city managers. The agenda will kick off with Planning for Success which covers the key topics you should discuss at the Pre-Paving Meeting to ensure a successful project followed by educational modules covering Asphalt Binders, Asphalt Aggregates, Asphalt Mix Design, and Asphalt Pavement Mix Types.

After breaking for lunch, day one resumes with the New Technology portion of the program. Representatives from TXAPA will be on hand to present an in-depth look at the most current technology affecting asphalt pavement outcomes including the design and use of Super Pave Mixes, the Overlay Test Procedure, the Hamburg Test Procedure, and the Shear Test Procedure.

On day two, Larry Welch will be on hand to deliver his famous all-day Paving and Compaction seminar. Welch, a TxDOT veteran and certification instructor at the Hot Mix Asphalt Center in Buda, Texas will share his over thirty years of experience during this asphalt pavement workshop. Day two is geared to the "boots on the ground," targeting road crews, field supervisors, and superintendents.

Participants will learn:

  • Safety: what is a safe working environment and how do you create one?
  • Planning for success: the Pre-Paving Meeting and other communication strategies
  • Milling and prep: surface preparation for successful overlays
  • Paving material handling: handle materials safely and efficiently from stockpile to project
  • Paver principles: best practices and proper methods for quality paving
  • Compaction: best practices and optimal techniques for compaction
