Training is a top priority for the Hot Mix Asphalt Center in 2018, with two new training classes currently in development. These classes are not part of a certification program, but will help prepare technicians to be successful on the job.

The HMA Plant Specialist Training class will prepare technicians to properly monitor and conduct Quality Control/Quality Assurance testing during the production of asphaltic mixes at the plant. Upon completion of this training class, technicians will have the knowledge and basic understanding of plant operations and TxDOT Test Procedures and Specifications that a Level 1A HMA Plant Specialist needs to know.

The HMA Roadway Specialist Training class will prepare technicians to properly monitor and conduct Quality Control/Quality Assurance testing for the placement of asphaltic mixes on the roadway. Upon completion of this training class, the technician will have the knowledge and basic understanding of setting rolling patterns, monitoring temperatures, identifying and correcting segregation, marking core locations using random number sampling, proper coring and trimming procedures and best practices for paving and compaction.

In other news the Center is partnering with TxDOT’s Construction Division for another exciting initiative in 2018, the new Aggregates Training and Certification Program.

Contact the Hot Mix Asphalt Center for more information on these updates.
