TXAPA’s Partners in Quality (PIQ) program continues to rise to the next level. We recently met with Michael Lee, TxDOT’s new Director of Engineering and Safety Operations, to discuss methods for TXAPA and TxDOT to partner to develop solutions to improve quality in the TxDOT sealcoat program. As a result, we have identified specific challenges and have a plan to involve all TXAPA sealcoat industry members in delivering the solutions.

TXAPA also recently met with TxDOT’s Dallas District to discuss how the TXAPA/TxDOT partnership can be made even more effective. District Engineer Kelly Selman, Duane Milligan and David Seago met with TXAPA to discuss actions on how we can achieve a higher level of quality asphalt pavement within the district. In 2017, the Dallas District was a TXAPA/TxDOT Quality Asphalt Pavement Award Winner and had more projects nominated for the award than any other district. During the meeting, we mutually determined several strategies for partnering to achieve even more award-winning pavements.

The Austin District and TXAPA recently held their last PIQ meeting of the year. Several important topics were discussed including a new sheer test that has been developed by TTI and TxDOT. The new test will be used in the Austin District on upcoming projects.
