TXAPA Sponsors the First Annual Asphalt Roadeo in Partnership with the University of Texas at Austin

Buda, Texas, December 8, 2017

 

TXAPA has partnered with the University of Texas at Austin Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Department of Civil Engineering to bring you the first annual Asphalt Roadeo. The idea comes from Dr. Amit Bhasin, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering and longtime partner of TXAPA. Dr. Bhasin has worked to develop a fun competition designed to encourage and involve engineering students in improving the performance of asphalt pavements. More than 30 students are expected to participate with teams competing on the following properties: surface texture and skid resistance, rutting resistance, cracking resistance, reasoning and presentation, and mix cost. The Asphalt Roadeo will also feature a tour of the Hot Mix Asphalt Center in Buda and the Austin Materials HMA plant, also in Buda. Judges will include Robert Lee, TxDOT, Albert Schlather, Hunter Industries, and Harold Mullen, TXAPA, among others.
