The Specification and Test Procedure Committee held a webinar on March 8th to review and gather comments on the draft Special Provisions sent over by TxDOT. Twenty-two members dialed in from all across Texas to help shape TXAPA’s comments. Majority of the revisions were minor and aimed to clarify the intent of the specifications. Along with the committees comments to the proposed Special Provisions, the committee recommended that TxDOT consider the following Specification changes:

  • Move forward with the Superpave Gyratory Compactor as the default Compactor in all aspects of design and production testing in Items 340 and 341.
  • Make changes in Table 13 of Item 344, raise the Superpave C compacted lift thickness to a minimum of 2" and raise the Superpave C minimum untrimmed core height to 1.5."
  • Raise the minimum thickness to 1.0" for Tom-C in Table 9 of Item 347.
