TXAPA COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES IN JULY

Quality Paving Committee – Eric Suarez, PSC/Silva Construction – Chair

This committee recently met to discuss several activities and programs being coordinated by the committee. Reports were given on the following activities:

• Intelligent Compaction Demonstration coordinated for the committee by ROMCO Equipment and Albert Schlather, Hunter Industries, LTD.   
• TxDOT. TTI Research Project on Rejuvenators coordinated by Eric Suarez, PSC/Silva Construction, Robert Lee, TxDOT and Fujie Zhou, TTI.  
• TXAPA Quality Asphalt Pavement Awards for Airports, City/County and Parking Lot applications.

Aggregate Soils and Base Committee – David Johnson, Colorado Materials – Chair

This committee recently met with TxDOT to discuss several items of mutual interest. TxDOT’s Caroline Heinen, Richard Izzo and Michael Dawidczik were in attendance from TxDOT. Topics discussed during the meeting included:

• TxDOT Aggregate Classifications
• Statewide Aggregate Availability
• The need for accurate and timely aggregate test results and possible technician certification 

Marketing and Membership Services Committee – Eddie Updike, Longview Asphalt – Chair

Committee met to review the Texas Asphalt Pavement User Guide that is being developed by the committee as an educational tool for all specifiers and users of asphalt pavement. The committee has been working with the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) on this extensive project. Much progress has recently been completed and visual design and distribution details are being discussed.

TXAPA/TxDOT Awards Committee – Ron Baker, TxDOT Lubbock and Eric Johnson, Austin Bridge & Road – Co-Chairs

The Joint Committee recently met to discuss nominees and first round evaluations of the projects that have been evaluated by TxDOT and TXAPA Evaluators. Second round evaluations were discussed and plans were reviewed for the committee to announce the award winners during TXAPA’s Annual Meeting in Galveston, September 20-23, 2016.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Committee – Steve Ford, Oldcastle Materials-Chair

The committee met to discuss the following items:

• Safety presentations for the upcoming Annual Meeting; topics that will be shared are creating a safety culture, work-zone and traffic safety, and safety in the shop using best management practices
• Participation in TXAPA’s 2017 Monthly Educational Webinars
• Review of safety elements for the TXAPA’s developing Asphalt 101 program

Training and Education Committee – Gary Corley, Kirby Smith Equipment Co. – Chair

The committee met jointly with the EHS Committee to discuss several projects that the committee is developing. Because of the importance of safety, the committee will incorporate pertinent safety aspects to all educational programs developed by the committee.
