Taking the High Road:  Good Community Relations for the Asphalt Industry

Date: Thursday, June 9, 2:00–3:00 p.m. EDT

Speaker:  Bill Taylor, Resource Development Manager, Granite Construction

Asphalt and aggregate companies offer a lot to our communities. Yet their contributions to modern society’s quality of life are not understood by the general public, and rarely communicated. This webinar will focus on a proactive approach to get, keep, and maintain good community relations rather than react to a community relations problem. Attendees will learn how to improve their company’s image and community recognition.

Registration:

Members, DOTS, City/County and Public Works Agencies, SAPAs — FREE (Use Code: Community)

Non-Members — $129

Specialization in Asphalt Sustainability Implementation Series - Recycled Materials: Ground Rubber Tire

Date: Wednesday, June 22, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT

Speakers:  Barry Nunez, Quality Control Manager, Diamond B Construction Co., and Dr. Carolina Rodezno, Assistant Research Professor, National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University

Scrap tire use in asphalt pavements is one of the oldest sustainability practices in the asphalt pavements and materials engineering community; however, there is still significant confusion on the part of the industry and user agencies when it comes to the use of scrap tires in pavement mixes. There are a wide variety of technologies, processes, and commercial products that are encompassed by the term "asphalt rubber." Learn about the various methods used to incorporate scrap tires in pavements, and understand how one contractor saved money by using GTR as an additive to modify lesser performance grade (PG) liquid asphalt while achieving properties of polymer modified asphalt and meeting the agency’s specifications.

 Session Takeaways:

-Understand the different practices to modify liquid asphalt using scrap tires.
-Gain first-hand knowledge on how to invest in your plant and begin the practice of using crumb rubber.
-Learn about the possible economic, environmental, social, and quality benefits associated with practicing sustainability through the use of crumb rubber to modify performance grade liquid asphalt.
