TACK COAT BEST PRACTICES

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Proper use of tack coat emulsions helps ensure proper bonding between layers of an asphalt pavement, which improves the long-term performance of the pavement. NAPA's latest addition to the Quality Improvement Publication Series — Best Practices for Emulsion Tack Coats (QIP-128) — is now available. This 36-page electronic publication, based on NCHRP Report 712, provides a convenient overview of guidelines and best practices for the selection, application rate, placement, and evaluation of emulsion tack coats. New non-tracking tack and polymer-modified emulsions are also covered. As with other NAPA technical publications, QIP-128 is available free to NAPA members; to order a copy visit http://store.AsphaltPavement.org.
