NAPA: Talks Webinar

Join National Center for Asphalt Technology Pavement Engineer Don Watson and NAPA's independent rater Gene Skok for a free webinar unveiling the 2012 Sheldon G. Hayes finalists. Watson will discuss how NCAT rates the Quality in Construction Award winning projects and will offer insight into the rating system, detailing why the key items reviewed produce quality pavements. Following NCAT's presentation, Skok will discuss his first-hand impressions of the three 2012 finalists. The announcement of the 2012 Sheldon G. Hayes winner will occur at the 2013 Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz., but this webinar highlight the factors that go into making the highest quality pavements in the country and give contractors insight into how they can ensure Quality in Construction for their projects. Ester Magorka, Director of Awards and NAPA PAC Programs, will moderate.

Meet the Speakers:
Don Watson P.E. is Instructional Manager and Manager of the Southeast Superpave Center at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) in Auburn, Ala. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University in 1986 while working for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). During his 32 year career with GDOT, Watson served as State Asphalt Design Engineer, State Bituminous Construction Engineer, and Assistant State Materials and Research Engineer. He has been with the National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University for 11 years where he works as research engineer and training coordinator. Watson has experience in laboratory and field testing, construction inspection, investigation of construction problems, conducting pavement evaluations, and writing specifications for materials and construction procedures. He is also an instructor for various training courses and certification programs through NCAT and the Southeastern Superpave Center.

Eugene L. Skok, Jr. is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists and has more than 50 years of experience in the asphalt paving field.  He has worked at Asphalt Institute, Minnesota Department of Transportation, The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) and the University of Minnesota. Skok has worked with NAPA since 2005 providing the independent rating for the Sheldon G. Hayes Award.
