2012 Partners In Quality Meetings

It is a new year and the TxDOT/TXAPA Partners in Quality meetings will be making the rounds across the state and coming to a district near you. 2011 was a very successful year. We held meetings all over the state and included all of TxDOT’s 25 districts. Some districts like Atlanta/Tyler, Amarillo/Childress and Abilene/San Angelo held joint meetings. In 2012 I have been asked if Brownwood can join the Abilene/San Angelo meeting. Other districts such as Yoakum do not hold a meeting in their district; instead they attend both the Houston and San Antonio meetings. In the past Houston and Beaumont held four meetings per year. Late last year they both dropped back to twice a year, and that is what we are planning for 2012. With the above in mind we are planning on holding 22 meetings in 20 districts this year.

Every meeting is a little different. Some have a very loose talkative atmosphere while others can be a little more reserved with less conversation. Either way they all appear to be producing positive benefits for TXAPA members and the TxDOT districts. All of them are luncheon meetings. Brownwood and El Paso invite their local city and El Paso even invited El Paso County.

In 2012 there will be a few changes to the TxDOT/TXAPA Partners in Quality Meetings. First off TXAPA members will be billed for their company representative(s) in attendance and TXAPA will pay for TxDOT and all other guests in attendance. Invoices will be sent after each meeting. Second, all TXAPA members (Regular, Major Associate and Associate) will be invited to attend the meetings. Lastly TXAPA would like to continue to expand their relationship with cities and counties; therefore, cities and counties may attend some of the meetings. If a TXAPA member or a TxDOT district wishes to invite a local city or county please let David Kopp, TXAPA Director of Business Relations, know at (512) 312-2099 or dkopp@texasasphalt.org so that he may check with other planned attendees to make sure that it is acceptable. After Mr. Kopp’s check the TXAPA member or TxDOT district will be notified of the results so they can proceed accordingly.

By the time you read this 2012 PIQ meetings will have already been held in the Beaumont, Houston, and Paris districts. As I mentioned in my opening paragraph the Houston meeting will include the Yoakum district. In March meetings will be held with the Austin, Pharr, Corpus Christi and San Antonio districts on March 9th, 27th, 28th and 29th respectively. On April 17th a PIQ meeting will be held with the Dallas district. In May meetings will be held with the Lubbock, Ft. Worth, Bryan and Atlanta/Tyler districts on May 9th, 10th, 16th and 22nd respectively.
