TxDOT/TxAPA Quality Asphalt Pavement Awards Program

It is that time of the year again.

The Quality Asphalt Pavement Awards Program is a joint effort between the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TxAPA).

The intent of the awards program is to encourage and recognize quality built Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavements. The awards program was established to honor those individuals and firms that have excelled in the production, placement and quality assurance on an HMA project. Too many times quality projects and the people responsible for those projects are not recognized or given the amount of credit they deserve. This program is designed to support and acknowledge TxDOT, contractors and most importantly the individuals that constructed the quality built HMA project.

TxDOT Districts and TxAPA Members that win an award are recognized during the TxAPA Annual Meeting. Awards and recognition for field personnel will be presented at a meeting that will be held in the TxDOT District.

We urge you to review your HMA pavements that have been completed during the past calendar year (2010) for nomination consideration. All Districts are encouraged to nominate at least one project. It is strongly recommended that a District designee, who is equipped with the ratings guide (guide included), perform a drive-through of each project being considered for nomination. This extra step should prove invaluable to the District in their determination of worthy projects.

IMPORTANT DATES

Submission of projects no later than April 1, 2011

Evaluation of all projects April 18, 2011 through June 3, 2011

Final project evaluation June 13, 2011 through August 5, 2011

Final project selection August 2011

Announcement of winners September 21, 2011

SUBMISSION OF NOMINEES

Projects submitted for nomination for the 2011 awards can be submitted from February through April 1, 2011. Remember the HMA pavements must have been completed during 2010. All nominees should be submitted on this form and returned by mail or fax on or before April 1, 2011 to:

David Kopp has asked that if you have non-TxDOT projects, such as city, county or RMA projects, that you feel are worthy of an award nomination to please contact him.
