Level 1A Training Precertification Requirement

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Beginning with the July 2010 Level 1A Training Course, candidates were required to pre-certify online at the Hot Mix Asphalt Center’s (HMAC) new website, www.txhmac.org.  In order to pre-certify, candidates must go to the website and log in.

The log-in process can be handled in two different ways. If the candidate has been through the HMAC before and has other certifications, he/she will enter their user log in information under the "Existing User Log in Area." If the candidate has never been through the HMAC before, he/she will click on "New User Registration." (Directions listed below.)

Once you have signed in or registered with the site and successfully completed updating your information, the site will take you to the certification page. At this page, next to Level 1A will be a "pre-certification" button.  You must click on that button and the site will take you to a page that contains all the TxDOT Test Procedures where you must view the video and pass the assessment exam at the end with at least a score of 80%. There are only two videos that do not have the assessment exam at the end.  When you successfully complete each of these assessments, a green checkmark will appear next to the TxDOT Test Procedure, letting you know you have completed that section.

A candidate taking the pre-certification can view the videos and take the exam at the end as many times as necessary to pass each one.  The time frame to complete the pre-certification varies but could be as little as six hours or longer to complete.

Once all the sections have been completed, the HMAC will receive an e-mail stating that you have successfully completed this portion of pre-certification and you will be able to sign up for the Level 1A Training Course at the HMAC in Buda.

The Level 1A Training course is five days in length and costs $1,000 per person to attend.  On the last day of training an open book written exam is given to each candidate.  Upon completing this exam with an 80% or higher, the candidate becomes Level 1A certified.
