Dear TAGITM Members,
As we turn the page into a new chapter, I’m filled with excitement and optimism about what lies ahead for TAGITM. We've welcomed a dynamic Board of Directors that include a few new faces — this is a passionate group of professionals ready to serve, lead, and help shape the future of public sector technology in Texas. Their diverse expertise and fresh perspectives will help us strengthen the value we provide to our members across the state.
One of our first major initiatives as a new board will be our upcoming Strategic Planning Meeting. This is a critical opportunity for us to align around TAGITM’s mission, evaluate emerging trends, and set the course for the coming years. We’re listening closely to your feedback and ideas — and we’re focused on bringing new energy, relevant resources, and innovative opportunities to the membership.
This year is all about new things — new conversations, new connections, and new ways to support one another. Whether you’ve been part of TAGITM for years or you’re just getting involved, this is your moment to engage. Two great ways to stay plugged in are through our active IT listserv and the newly launched GIS listserv — both are incredible resources to ask questions, share ideas, and connect with peers tackling similar challenges.
And while it may feel early, I want to make sure you get this on your radar: the 2026 TAGITM Annual Conference will be held at the astonishing JW Marriott Hill Country Resort April 7 – 10, 2026. Trust me — this is going to be an event you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars now and reserve space to bring your team. It will be a perfect mix of learning, networking, and a little Hill Country inspiration.
Looking ahead, start thinking about the amazing work happening in your organization — or in a neighboring agency. TAGITM’s awards and recognition programs are a great way to highlight projects, innovation, and impact. We’d love to celebrate your success at the 2026 conference!
For those that enjoy the regional events, be on the lookout for upcoming dates, topics, and details. If you have not to join one before, they are great ways to get those involved for more direct events.
I can’t help myself, but I will never stop sharing the amazing opportunities we have to volunteer and serve on a committee. One of the greatest honors is putting others above self. I believe as we put our heart into public service, it reflects a servant heart. Giving to others above yourself has been a fruitful and rewarding place to give my time and talent to. You do that daily at your work and here is another place to give back.
Thank you again for your continued engagement and support. Let’s make this year one of bold ideas, meaningful connections, and outstanding progress.
Warm regards,
James O’Brien, CISSP, CGCIO
