I am sharing a small summary on Hyatt Data Breach because the report shows the delay in impact, discovery, and remediation.  The report is new, but like so many other reports, breaches may have occurred years ago.  Usually, these types of major breaches can also have a global reach and millions impacted.  I think this should bring up the question of “are most companies more secure after a breach?” or is it just “business as usual…” until audits, compliance, reports, or responsibility is due?

Hyatt Data Breach

Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced on May 10, 2023 that it had discovered unauthorized access to payment card information from cards manually entered or swiped at the front desk of certain Hyatt-managed locations between March 18, 2017 and July 2, 2017.

The breach affected 41 properties across 11 countries, including five of the Hyatt properties in the United States. The nation with the largest number of Hyatt properties impacted was China (18). The company has published a list of the affected hotels.

Hyatt said that it is working with law enforcement to investigate the breach and that it has taken steps to secure its systems. The company is also offering affected customers free credit monitoring and identity theft protection.

This is just one of the many data breaches that have occurred in recent years. Data breaches are a growing problem, and they can have a significant impact on individuals and organizations. It is important to be aware of the risks and to take steps to protect your personal information.
