The TAGITM Cybersecurity Committee (TAGITM C²) may be new to the TAGITM portfolio, but don’t let this fool you. The executive team represents almost 100 years of combined experience in IT and cybersecurity. We are proud that our membership includes cities of various sizes, counties, Appraisal Districts and even higher education. This diversity is important to assure cybersecurity challenges of all sizes are well represented in our team discussions.

The committee has been busy building a foundation to create the most value to the TAGITM community. A formal mission statement is forthcoming, but the direction has been made very clear by Bernie Acre, Committee Chair: “Our goal is to make a difference!”

In addition to working on the foundation for the committee, we have already started working on some exciting initiatives.

The committee recognizes that over the years, cybersecurity professionals establish “toolkits” of useful websites and links that help in all aspects in protecting information. We have worked together to establish a list of these sites and will be publishing them on the cybersecurity page of the TAGITM website. The intent is not to be “all inclusive” but provide a starting point for smaller IT organizations or to augment what larger IT shops have in use.

The Committee has already received a presentation from the Critical Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Even members that have seen CISA presentations before were able to take away valuable information on how CISA is a force multiplier for their cybersecurity program.

We also were all very impressed by a recent presentation by the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDIR). The ITDIR is a non-profit organization that provides technology and people in case of an incident. They are not directly part of the “Incident Response” team but can bring up an entire parallel network to support an organization as the impacted environment is being investigated and recovered -- all at no charge. In our collective opinion, this is a very valuable resource.

Over the next several weeks, we plan to have the committee page updated with the list of useful links, top 10 cybersecurity podcasts and other various cybersecurity tools.

We cannot do this alone. To provide the most value, we need to hear from the TAGITM community. What are the cybersecurity challenges you are facing and how can your cybersecurity committee support you?

Please go to the Cybersecurity Committee page on the TAGITM website and contact one of our committee members with any ideas, suggestions or feedback.

The committee is excited to be your trusted cybersecurity resource!

Eric Yancy
Vice-Chair, TAGITM C²
