The economy of the state of Texas is one of the largest in the world, at $1.64 trillion, placing it just behind Brazil in GDP and ahead of Canada.

This staggering reality demonstrates the impact that we as HR professionals have, collectively and individually, in our respective organizations. A quality and productive workforce is the backbone of a strong economy. To that end, I am please that the governor of Texas has proclaimed October as Human Resources Awareness Month.

I don't take this proclamation perfunctorily. With 30 years of Human Resources experience behind me, I've seen great progress over that time. No longer do we speak of wanting a "seat at the table," we speak of driving change and of the bottom line impact our programs and actions will have.

So celebrate HR Awareness month proudly. Take your CEO to lunch and discuss an issue you've been wanting to bring up, or the organization's people goals and priorities for 2017.
When: Thursday, November 3, 2016
Where: Victoria College's Emerging Technology Complex
Who: All HR professionals and small business owners

America works best when Americans vote. However, the percentage of eligible voters who cast their ballots continues to decline election after election. According to a study by Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, 23 million Americans contacted an elected official over a two-year period, but didn't bother to go vote!
