On September 10, 2015, Concho Valley SHRM held their 2015 Annual Seminar. We were very excited to have such wonderful speakers and compelling presentations. Highlights include:
  • A very dynamic presentation on Authentic Communication by Jody Holland. Jody is the owner of iWorkZone.com and Cloudinterview.com. His presentation is always very interactive, a lot of fun, and you learn so much!
  • EEOC Initiatives presented by Rodney Klein, Dallas district’s outreach and training manager of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. It was very interesting to hear what the future holds for the EEOC.
  • Affordable Care Act presented by Chad Nelson, HR expert for ETC HR, LLC, and owner of Dwysdom Marketing & Business Solutions. Chad helped us maneuver through the sometime puzzling world of the ACA. His talk was very informative and helped explain a lot of the ACA items.
  • Emerging Workforce Study presented by Sandy Mazur, division president of franchise and license operations for Spherion Staffing. It was interesting to see how the workforce has evolved and changed in 15 years. Also, how the different generations look at the workforce and what they expect from the workplace.

Texas Bay Area Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) is excited to partner with University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL).

On Monday, November 9, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., we will be hosting an HR panel where UHCL students and alumni can learn and ask questions about different career paths in human resources.

The event will be held in the Garden Room and Atrium 1 in the Bayou Building on the campus of UHCL.

We will have panelists representing staffing and recruiting, compensation and benefits, and HR generalist (as we all know, HR professionals wear MANY hats). Following the HR panel, there will be an HR mixer where students and alumni can network with HR professionals.

This is a great opportunity for UHCL students and alumni to learn what HR looks like in the real world and what opportunities may be possible. It’s also a great opportunity for our Texas Bay Area SHRM members to share their experiences with young professionals. We are passionate about partnering with young professionals and helping them prepare for their careers.

Attention Texas Bay Area SHRM Members

Do you remember what it was like trying to break into HR? Do you wish you had someone to help guide you? We have the opportunity to be a resource to young professionals and help them as they prepare to enter the workforce. Please join me for the HR panel and mixer and be a part of this rewarding opportunity. If you are interested, please register online. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Elizabeth Wojtowicz, college relations chair, at elizabeth.wojtowicz@coastalflow.com.

SHRM Foundation
Our October 24 Fall Meeting and HRSW Conference are just around the corner, and we have some fun things planned for you. We have several opportunities for you to help us reach our Foundation goal this year.

Fall meeting: We will be raffling a couple of great items as we normally do. NEW this year: Wine raffle. Rules are simple. Buy a raffle ticket, pick a number, and you win the corresponding bottle of wine. You'll have an opportunity to swap your bottle for a small up-charge. Bottles of wine range from $10 to $100, and some have a rating of 93 points. Your donation will help fund future SHRM Foundation scholarships.

HRSW SHRM Shack: Stop by the SHRM Shack during the HRSW Conference and buy raffle tickets for a chance to win a night stay at the luxurious four-star Rosewood Crescent Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

We will also be selling t-shirts during the meeting and HRSW.
