Excel, learn and enjoy: this should have been the mantra for Texas A&M University San Antonio at the SHRM Case Competition and Career Summit in Ontario, Calif. Here is a short excerpt from their experience.

Greetings from Ontario, Calif.! Its day two of the SHRM Case Competition and Career Summit. The morning was spent on a briefing from McDonalds USA HR Consultant, Chris Stewart, discussing internships, mentorships, and networking. This session was followed by finalists competing for the top spot in the undergraduate and graduate divisions. After lunch we attended the closing session to learn of competition winners and overall team placements. Our A&M-SA team scored seventh out of 21 competing universities, an excellent showing given the limited preparation. Incidentally we beat A&M College Station! The attached photos include a view of our team presenting their case on day one, taking in a student mixer at the end of day one, and our reviewing feedback from the judges on our team's presentation as the conference ended. Desiree won one of the door prizes, a $50 gift card. The team has convinced me they needed a three-hour trip to the outlet mall for some last-minute souvenir shopping.

I would like to thank Adrian Guardia PhD, SPHR, Lectuer in the College of Business at Texas A&M University San Antonio, for providing me with how their experience went at SHRM’s Case Competition and Career Summit and the photos taken.

They are planning on repeating this experience in 2016 with interested members and are already making their plans for same. How about your SHRM Student Chapter? Have you started planning for 2016?

There is one last chance this year in the Central Region, April 24-25, 2015 in Covington, Ky. If you attend, be sure to share your experience.
