Mid-Cites

We hope all the chapters are enjoying their summer and the wonderful Texas heat we all love! We would like to take a minute to highlight some exciting things that are happening in Arlington with the Mid-Cities Human Resource Association.

The April MCHRA meeting featured a Wine Pull, which raised $800 for the SHRM Foundation!

MCHRA recently teamed with University of Texas at Arlington to create and execute a survey of our membership. We had an impressive 81% of active members responding! We coupled the response rate with an incentive to win a iPad mini, which was awarded to Shelly Stone, PHR with Atmos Energy Corporation.

The results of the survey showed that there is an interest for more emphasis on Texas HR law. Beginning with the May meeting, MCHRA has added an additional legal hour for monthly luncheons. With the new legal hour, there is not an additional cost to registered attendees for the second presentation. The legal hour will also be submitted for HRCI credits.

In June, MCHRA teamed up with the Dallas-Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association (DFWHHRA) and had three speakers and 3.5 recertification credits. MCHRA is looking to continue these for the remaining meetings for 2014.

In an attempt to reach more members and increase the interest in MCHRA, we have ramped up our social media efforts. In June, we added a Facebook group and Twitter account to widen communications with our members. We have seen a wonderful increase in participation and requests to join.

Additionally, we are in the midst of reconstructing the current website to provide more information about our chapter, membership, volunteer opportunities, and add a public job board that we hope will attract local employers to share their jobs with us! We just finished up a membership campaign to reach out to those with a lapsed membership and encourage renewal. We took a personal approach and made calls to each person and sent personalized emails.

Typically we take July off, however, this year we have decided to host a mix and mingle event for all! This will be a fun event, with prizes, food, drink, and most importantly an effort to showcase our leadership, membership benefits, and volunteer opportunities!!

As you can see there is a lot going on in Arlington!  Stop by for a visit we'd love to have ya!
