SSPC Members Approve Revised Bylaws

SSPC has experienced significant growth over the past few years. Historically, 95 percent of our membership has been located in the United States. That has changed in recent years to the point where global members now comprise about 20 percent of our total membership. As SSPC has become an internationally recognized training and certification organization, coatings professionals from all over the world are becoming engaged and active in the association.

As our membership and the world around us has changed, the Board of Governors determined that it was time to revise our Bylaws to accommodate current and future growth. The Bylaws were originally adopted on June 17, 1967 and have undergone minor revisions over the years, such as the addition of Individual Membership categories in 1986. However, as we expand our organization and the benefits that we offer, the Board felt it was necessary to do a more comprehensive revision to support our organization as we move forward. One of the most critical issues is to provide for the future governance of the organization by addressing the requirements and the term limits of board members to allow us to find the most qualified members to serve.

This past winter, SSPC conducted a vote of the membership through Votenet Solutions and their eBallot platform. The voting period ran from December 5, 2018 – January 15, 2019 and was open to every person who was a member of SSPC as of October 1, 2018, the official date of record used to determine eligibility. In order for the ballot to pass, 15% of the membership was required to vote in favor of the changes.  At the end of the voting, the changes were approved with 19.17% voting yes.
