Farewell and Thank You to Dee Boyle

Dee Boyle came to work at SSPC in April of 1990. From her first day on the job, she pitched in to help wherever she was needed.  If there were any “all-hands-on-deck" projects, Dee would be one of the first to volunteer. And she always did it with a smile. I remember there were many weeks and months when the training department was busy, or we were preparing for conference, Dee would work long days and weekends and even if she was tired, she would still go the extra mile for everyone. No matter how many hours or days she worked, her patience and dedication to helping SSPC members never wavered.

During her time at SSPC, Dee has worked on conferences, training, membership and administration. Because of her wide experience, she has been a valuable resource helping members with any and all kinds of questions or problems. This also applies to the staff. Dee has often been able to provide the answers to those historical questions that pop up.  Many times, I have gone to Dee with a “Do you remember?” question and she either knew the answer or had it in an old file!

Most members who have called SSPC with a question, taken any kind of SSPC training course, or attended a conference has either spoken to or communicated with Dee in some way. I remember attending an SSPC conference when Dee was working in member services. Several of us had gone in early to get some training classes started and Dee was scheduled to come in a day or so later. Training students kept stopping me to ask, “Is Dee coming?  When will she get here? She helped me get registered, and I wanted to say thank you.” When Dee arrived onsite it was warm hello’s and big Pittsburgh hugs for everyone. Even now when people come to the office they ask, “Is Dee here today?”.

Dee will be retiring in June. When I think about a single word to describe Dee, it is heart. She has a big heart that embraces everyone. We will miss her friendship, kindness and fun-loving spirit. We are all so grateful for her 30 years of service and dedication. We know you all join us in wishing her a long and happy retirement with her family.
