In 2013, the SPFA Safety Committee developed two OSHA-compliant, bilingual jobsite safety signs. These included a Do Not Enter sign and a Fire Hazard sign.  The Do Not Enter sign should be placed at all entry points of the spray zone to provide adequate warning of the need for proper PPE.  The Fire Hazard sign should be placed throughout any area interior area with exposed SPF not protected with a fire protective covering or coating, to prevent ignition of exposed foam during construction.

In 2016, two more OSHA-compliant jobsite safety signs were added.  The first is the No Storage sign.  This sign should be prominently and permanently placed in all attics and crawlspace areas where the foam is not covered with an approved 15-minute thermal barrier.  It warns building owners that no storage is permitted in these areas.  The second new sign for Permit Confined Spaces, should be placed at the entry point of all Construction Confined Spaces, per the new OSHA regulations.

All four signs are provided as a color PDF and formatted for 8.5 x11 paper.  If a larger sign is needed, they can be scaled by changing the printer settings.  A single PDF file containing all four signs can be downloaded from the SPFA Members Only website.

August 18, 2016 – The SPFA Building Envelope and Technical Oversight Committees are pleased to announce an update to SPFA-126 "Thermal Barriers and Ignition Barriers for the Spray Polyurethane Industry". This new document, last revised in 2011, represents significant changes to content to address recent changes in the 2015 IRC and IBC model building codes. A volunteer task group led by Lindsay Lenze of NoBurn worked diligently since April to develop this updated document. Many thanks to those that participated on this project. Copies of SPFA-126 and all other SPFA TechDocs may be downloaded at no charge from the SPFA website at: http://www.sprayfoam.org/technical/spfa-technical-documents

All building products, including spray foam insulation, have to meet certain requirements to be allowed in construction applications. These code minimum requirements are determined by the ICC or International Code Council – and are documented in code books including the IRC, IBC, IECC and others.

SPFA PCP frequently gets phone calls from frantic contractors wanting to know "How quickly can I become certified by the SPFA PCP?" This usually happens when the contractor receives a bid requiring the work to be done by SPFA PCP Certified applicators. Our immediate question is, "Are you certifiable?"

We are looking at data showing that many folks have successfully completed some of the requirements needed to become SPFA PCP Certified; however, they haven’t submitted all the information needed to earn the distinguished SPFA PCP Certification.

Please let us know what is holding you up.

A Working Group is being formed to reach out to those who have begun, but not yet completed certification levels. We’d like to hear from you on what is stopping you from completing the requirements. This same group will also work on retaining and renewing those who are already certified and helping them get to the next level!

We look forward to hearing from you. Please direct comments, concerns and questions to Kelly Marcavage at kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org
